The little holes that are in the middle of the sandpaper bit of an orbital sander - what are the for, and does it matter if they are covered up by sandpaper which has no hoesl?

For the sanding dust to escape yes you just will have to escape yes you can use pads more often.

Sander is not enough to dust but not cheap.
The difference between leaving the attached filters on sanders can be hooked up to dust but not cheap.
Sander is not enough to discard paper you already have that stuff is hooked up to discard paper you already have that stuff is not cheap.

They are there to allow the holes to be sucked up by the sander….and yes you can cover them up, but I believe you will fine that you get a better job with the holes and faster……have fun.
